'Aladdin' musical to return for second season
Trevor comes from the Broadway production of the show. Fred Johanson plays Jafar. Fred is a seasoned international theatre actor with credits in Sunset Boulevard and Evita. Jermaine Woods plays Iago. In the 1992 film, Iago was a parrot and voiced by the very distinctive Gilbert Gottfried. Irvine Iqbal plays the Sultan. Irvine has an extensive CV. Aladdin first opened for a short two-week run at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle in 2011.
It then went on a regional and international tour during 2012 before opening in Toronto in 2013. Eventually, it opened on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre in 2014. Will I like it?

Based on the aforementioned Academy Award-winning animated film, Aladdin made its world premiere to serious critical acclaim on Broadway back in 2014 and quickly established itself as one of the biggest new blockbusters in recent years. The musical truly goes above and beyond in terms of pure spectacle for the stage, with the Australian production boasting a cast of 34 and a stunning 337 glittering costumes.
It is all nonsense but it is done with conviction by Casey Nicholaw, the director and choreographer, who bombards us with business. Not visibly, anyway. Dean John-Wilson, however, is a likable, rough-hewn Aladdin; and Jade Ewen lends her Jasmine, refusing to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, a touch of fire. But I enjoyed the villains even more.
Don Gallagher as the scheming vizier, who hatches evil plans with his little finger crooked and never exits without a manic cackle, is camp of the highest order; and Peter Howe as his minute, curly-haired accomplice, Iago, reminded me of a sinister Charlie Drake.
